We of the Never Never


The film adaptation of Jeanie Gunn’s Australian literary classic, We of the Never Never, was filmed near the small township of Mataranka.
Set in 1901, this is an enticing and unforgettable drama about a young woman who found herself battling hardship, isolation and prejudice on an outback cattle station in the Northern Territory.
She formed firm friendships with local Aboriginal women and children and earning the respect of the station workers.
A small town situated on the Stuart Highway, Mataranka borders Elsey National Park which is named after the cattle station where Jeanie lived.
