Outback
The Northern Territory is the home of Australia’s Outback, where real cowboys work dusty hours mustering on cattle stations so big the best chance of finding all the cattle is to travel by helicopter. Here, the average size of a cattle station is 3122 sq kms. Covering 12 000 square kilometres of fertile black soil, Brunette Downs is the largest cattle station in the Northern Territory.
You can experience station life by staying at one of the many stations that invite visitors and give you the option of relaxing or getting very hands on. Or, you can really add to your skill set by attending the week-long Outback Jackeroo/Jillaroo School course held at the rural campus of Charles Darwin University in Katherine.
