Editor's Journey - Inside Out

Karen McCartney has a wealth of experience in the areas of design, art and style spanning 20 years and several continents. From an Honours degree in the History of Art & English from University College London, and her first job on British magazine Art Monthly, Karen’s passion for mid-century modern furniture, interiors and contemporary art have seen her rise through the ranks of the world’s prestige media.

She has written for among other titles, British Elle Decoration and The Financial Times and edited Marie Claire Lifestyle, here in Australia. She is founding editor of interiors magazine Inside Out, which is now in its 8th year, and is the editorial director of Inside Out, Notebook, Country Style and Emporium.

Karen has recently released her second book ‘50/60/70 Iconic Australian Houses: Three Decades of Domestic Architecture’. With her keen interest in art and culture, a trip to Darwin to explore the thriving art scene was the perfect holiday experience.
