Quad biking

Mount a quad bike at Kings Creek Station and venture into untamed landscape in search of feral camels, kangaroos and dingoes, as well as a chance to tackle crossings of red sand dunes. Tours are very safe and range from half-an-hour to extended overnight safaris. No quad bike experience is required.

Camel rides

Riding a camel is a unique way to explore the Uluru-Kata Tjuta region and these gentle giants will surprise you with their intelligence, patience and good manners. Join a sunrise or sunset ride to view the changing colours of Uluru from a secluded hilltop surrounded by spinifex and desert oaks.

Harley ride

Circumnavigate Uluru on the back of a late model Harley Davidson for a real sense of freedom and excitement. Tours range from half-an-hour to a full day and for those with an open-class license, or who are over the age of 25, there are self-drive options available.

Scenic Flights

Aboard a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft and appreciate the scenery from the air. View the stunning formations of Kata Tjuta and see the unspoilt beauty of the surrounding red desert. The spectacle of Uluru is overwhelming from the air as it takes on a completely new perspective. Tours pick up from Yulara.

Curtin Springs Station

Curtin Springs Station is located 90 kilometres from Yulara and offers free camping and the chance for guests to learn how a station operates. The station also runs daily tours to the nearby Mount Conner and salt lakes, though you don't need to stay at the station to join a tour.

To get a taste of life on a true outback station, plan to spend time exploring Curtin Springs, east of Uluru Kata Tjuta or try quad biking at Kings Creek Station near Watarrka National Park.

Camel safaris are also an option at both and they each offer fascinating insight into pastoral life and the early pioneer history of the region.

The unsealed Mereenie Loop is recognised as one the greatest desert drives in Australia. Connecting Alice Springs with Watarrka National Park and Uluru-Kata Tjuta via a stretch of dirt track that ploughs through the West MacDonnell Ranges, it's an interesting alternative to the Explorer's Way for anyone with a 4x4.
